History of FME

Founded in 1989 by Renilde Montessori, Dr. Maria Montessori’s youngest granddaughter, the Foundation for Montessori Education (FME) possesses a lineage uniquely connected to the Montessori family.

We were incredibly fortunate to have Renilde guide FME for many years. During her time, she shared invaluable insights and personal stories about her grandmother with our trainers. This direct connection offers our trainers—and by extension, our students—a truly unique and profound perspective of Dr. Montessori and the fundamental principles of her work.

Renilde Montessori was also instrumental in incorporating FME as a not-for-profit charitable organization. Our primary purpose remains the same today: to actively promote Montessori principles and practices as an aid to life.

  • FME is one of only two AMI Montessori Training Centres in Canada
  • Over 2,500 individuals have graduated from AMI diploma program and certificate courses at FME since 1989
  • FME is a registered not-for-profit charitable organization
  • FME is registered as a Career College under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005

Every year, the Private Career Colleges (PCC) of Ontario conducts a survey of its graduates to assess a number of Key Performance Indicators such as graduation rate, employment rate and satisfaction rate.

FME’s 2022 PCC survey results are outlined below:

  • Graduation rate:  93.33%
  • Graduation employment rate is 100%  with 100% of our graduates employed in their field of study
  • Graduate satisfaction rate: 91.67%

Our vision is to create a community that is fully integrated, where children, adolescents, adults, and elders can come together, play together, and learn from one another. At FME, we build communities of integrated belonging.

At FME, our mission is to educate and prepare adults by delivering authentic, high-fidelity Montessori education, ensuring that children and all people have access to environments that promote exploration, independence, responsibility, empathy, and lifelong learning.
