Course Overview
The AMI 3-6 Orientation Course helps you explore the foundations of Montessori education and takes a close look at the child from 3-to-6 years of age: how they develop, how they learn, and how adults can best support them.
The course gives a solid foundation to anyone working in a Casa environment. It is equally valuable for administrators, guides at other levels, and educators who want to better understand this remarkable stage of childhood.
The AMI 3-6 Orientation Course provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of the 3-to-6-year-old child, learning how to help create a peaceful environment conducive to the child’s development.
Online format
The course will be delivered 100% online, and consists of online lectures and discussions, asynchronous course work, and 9 hours of independent observation.
Dates
The course will be held from February 1 – March 3, 2027.
Synchronous online classes
33 hours in-person online classes meeting 3 times per week
Monday evenings 6:00 – 8:00 pm,
Wednesday evenings 6:00 – 8:00 pm,
and Saturdays 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Excluding Saturday February 13 and Monday February 15 for the Family Day weekend.
Asynchronous online classes
27 hours of independent online activity
To be completed between the online classes each week. Approximately 5-6 additional hours per week.
Technical Requirements
- Material and course work, as well as course communication, will be delivered using Google Classroom.
- The course requires access to the internet, a general ability to use computers and a willingness to use and learn Zoom and Google Classroom platforms.
Course Work
The course will consist of lecture presentations, readings, discussions and various activities.
In order to obtain the AMI 3-6 Orientation Certificate, participants are required to:
- maintain 90% attendance.
- complete independent online learning
- complete nine hours of observation
- submit three written assignments.
