Course Overview

The AMI 6-12 Orientation Certificate Course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the elementary aged child. It is well suited for assistants, administrators, parents, caregivers, and those interested in supporting the elementary-aged child.

Blended Course Format

  • 33 hours online synchronous
  • 27 hours independent study (approximately 4.5 hours per week)
  • 9 additional hours of observation in an elementary Montessori environment

Dates: September 22 – November 3

Online Synchronous sessions will be held on
Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 – 9:00 pm ET

  • Week one: Monday, September 22
  • Week two: Monday, September 29 and Wednesday, October 1
  • Week three: Monday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 8
  • Week four: Wednesday, October 15
  • Week five: Monday, October 20 and Wednesday, October 22
  • Week six: Monday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 29
  • Week seven: Monday, November 3

Technical Requirements

  • Materials and course work, as well as course communication, will be delivered using Populi.
  • Asynchronous work must be completed on time to maintain attendance.
  • The course requires access to the internet, a general ability to use computers and a willingness to use and learn Zoom and the Populi platform.
  • Devices used to join the synchronous classes must have a working camera and microphone.
  • Attendance from a vehicle will not be permitted.

Course Work

  • The course work consists of lectures, participation in discussion groups, submission of 3 reflection papers (500 words), 9 hours of observation, submission of compiled observation reports, 90% attendance for synchronous sessions, 100% participation in asynchronous activities.
  • Students will arrang\e their own observation experience with approval from the trainer.

The course fee is $1,034.39 Canadian
