AMI 3-6 Orientation Course

The AMI 3-6 Orientation Course is designed for assistants, support staff and guides at other levels who want to know more about the child from 3-to-6-years of age. The course will provide you with the essential knowledge and practical skills you need to become effective and supportive in your work with young children. We will focus on the unique needs of the 3-to-6-year-old child and the pivotal role of the adults in their development.

The AMI 3-6 Orientation Course provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of the 3-to-6-year-old child, learning how to help create a peaceful environment conducive to the child’s development.


The course will be delivered 100% online. The course will consist of online lectures and discussions, plus 9 hours of independent observation.

The course will be held from August 11 – September 2, 2026.

33 hours in-person online classes

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

27 self-paced lecture hours to be completed between the online classes each week. Approximately 9 additional hours per week.


  • Material and course work, as well as course communication, will be delivered using Google Classroom.
  • The course requires access to the internet, a general ability to use computers and a willingness to use and learn Zoom and Google Classroom platforms.

The course will consist of lecture presentations, readings, discussions and various activities.

In order to obtain the AMI 3-6 Orientation Certificate, participants are required to:

  • maintain 90% attendance.
  • complete independent online learning
  • complete nine hours of observation
  • submit three written assignments.
