Applying to the AMI Montessori 6-12 Diploma Program at the Foundation for Montessori Education is your first step in acquiring an internationally recognized AMI diploma. Take the next step in your Montessori journey with the blended AMI 6-12 Montessori Diploma Program offered at FME. This unique full-time program blends the flexibility of online learning with in-person training, allowing you to gain hands-on experience with Montessori materials.
By completing this program, you will earn your AMI Diploma, the only Montessori credential bearing Dr. Maria Montessori’s signature.
Prerequisites
- Education Prerequisite: A Bachelor’s Degree in any field of study.
- English Language Proficiency: This program is conducted at a university-level of English. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency by providing proof of completion of post-secondary courses in which the language of instruction was English, or an IELTS Academic (or equivalent) score of 6 with no band below 5.5
- Degree or Diploma Obtained Outside of Canada: Those who hold a degree from a university outside of Canada must have their degree assessed by an academic credential evaluation service, or a recognized Canadian University and submit the assessment along with their application. The World Education Services provides credential assessment on a document-by-document basis.

Program Requirements
The AMI Montessori 6 – 12 Diploma is granted upon satisfactory completion of the course requirements, including:
- attendance at lectures and supervised practice
- fulfilling observation and practicum requirements
- submitting written assignments
- creating reference albums and resource manuals
- material making assignments
- attaining passing grades on written examinations
- attaining passing grades in oral examinations conducted by examiners of the AMI
Schedule
June 9, 2026 to april 30, 2027
Online Sessions will be held on evenings from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm ET
Plan for an additional 12 – 15 hours per week of self-scheduled work and independent study during both the online and onsite weeks.
In-Person Sessions will be held from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
- July 13 – August 14, 2026
- November 9 – 27, 2026
- April 5 – 30, 2027
Written Exams: March 22, 24 & 26, 2027
Oral Exams: April 26 – 30, 2027, pending AMI Confirmation of examiners.
Observation and Practice Teaching: Three weeks and three days of observation in Montessori environments. Four weeks of practice teaching. All to be completed within the duration of the program.
Access to a 6 – 12 prepared environment during the distance modules is recommended to allow for practice with the materials. The Training Centre will be open from time to time for this purpose for those who are in the area.
Tuition Fees
The tuition fee for the 2026 – 2027 program is $15,000 CDN payable as follows:

Approximately $700.00 CAD should be budgeted for albums, books and materials.
FME reserves the right to postpone or cancel the course if the minimum enrollment is not met.
